ELEKTROTIM S.A. Energy Transformation Leader.

On March 20, 2024. ELEKTROTIM S.A. was honored with the title of Energy Transformation Leader at the Polish Climate Congress Gala. The award-winning project involves the design, construction and commissioning of a mobile and autonomous energy storage system, which is intended to supply a section of urban railway with power in a way that enables normal rail traffic, eliminating the need to build a stationary overhead line substation.

The creators and initiators of the solution are the Director of the Overhead Lines Division: Dariusz Antos and Implementation Director: Zbigniew Bartnicki with the full involvement of the implementation team.

 

Dariusz Antos – Director of the Overhead Lines Division of ELEKTROTIM S.A. – an energy industry expert and manager with more than 20 years of experience in strategy, investment development, business and leading effective multidisciplinary teams – “The start of work on developing the project idea coincided with our involvement in the development of ELEKTROTIM S.A.’s Strategy for 2023 – 2025. This project fits precisely with the strategic assumptions that oblige ELEKTROTIM S.A. to become a leader in energy transition implementations. Our experience in the field of project management and our human capital and its competencies give us the basis for taking on challenges in the area of innovation implementation. Our idea of creating innovative solutions is in the fields of technology and processes. While we are not a component manufacturing company, our process management and design skills allow us to look at the issue from a broad perspective. This way of operating and using competencies allows us to build alternative models for using technologies available on the market.”

 

Zbigniew Bartnicki – Implementation Director ELEKTROTIM S.A. – project manager, has many years of experience as a device builder and designer – “The idea behind the project was to make the most of the available resources of the overhead lines system and create a solution that works only with the broadest possible synergy between the device being constructed and the urban overhead lines itself. We assumed that the strategic goal of our project would be to eliminate the need for the construction of an overhead line substation supply infrastructure in the final section of the tram line. The possibility of conducting normal vehicle traffic under such conditions is ensured due to the fact that the energy storage is fed from the 660VDC overhead line, at a time when rail vehicle traffic is not taking place. As soon as vehicles arrive, the device we built turns on automatically (a significant increase in energy demand in the final, unpowered section of the line) and provides the network parameters required for normal traffic. In addition, during this time, the energy of the storage bank is replenished in automatic mode using energy recuperation from vehicle braking.”

 

Our project is a micro-picture of the right way of energy transition: energy management should be done with the optimal resource, sparingly and using all identified synergies of the system.
